Departed Yet Not Forgotten

While surveying options for providing water to The Field, we stumbled across an old pet cemetery for beloved four-legged family members. The headstones showed some wear and tear, but the names were still clear, having been shielded from the sun and inclement weather by a canopy of trees. It was sad, obviously, but lovely too.

I thought about adding a headstone for our family pets, and can only imagine the call to the monumental mason. “Yes. That’s right. I would like to order a headstone for Constance, my beloved coonhound …” That’s one sure way of getting a reputation in town as a crazy dog lady!

Constance was the dog of dogs and will always be missed.  It will be nice to have a physical spot where we can remember her.

The spot is picture perfect, and I thought of Constance when I saw two squirrels fighting over a fallen chestnut nearby. She would love to be within a paw’s reach of a snack in the afterlife, and squirrels were her favourite, although they were too quick for her geriatric limbs, scampering up trees and avoiding danger (thank goodness). Constance was the dog of dogs and will always be missed. It will be nice to have a physical spot where we can remember her.

Over and out.
